Eligibility for UPESSC PGT Recruitment 2026 depends on the subject selected by the candidate. For most subjects, the basic requirement is a postgraduate degree in the concerned subject from a recognized university or institution along with a B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognized course.
Some subjects have different academic requirements instead of the standard postgraduate-subject plus B.Ed. combination. Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Home Science, Physical Education and Ranjan Kala have qualifications specifically described in the notification. Candidates applying for these subjects should match their degree, diploma or professional qualification with the exact subject-wise requirement before submitting the form.
The required educational qualification must be held by the prescribed closing date. Simply having a postgraduate degree in a related field does not automatically make a candidate eligible unless it matches the qualification specified for the selected PGT subject.
The notification prescribes 21 years as the minimum age for the PGT post as on 01 July 2026. It mentions 62 years as the age of superannuation. Candidates claiming reservation or other benefits should check the applicable conditions given in the official advertisement.

The scanned signature must be uploaded in JPG/JPEG format. The notification specifies a signature size of 10 KB to 200 KB with 140 × 110 pixel resolution. The passport-size photograph should be between 30 KB and 300 KB. Other uploaded certificates/documents should be in PDF format and generally between 50 KB and 500 KB.
Do not choose a PGT subject only because its vacancy count is higher. The Commission has prescribed a separate academic qualification for each subject, and eligibility can be cancelled later if the qualification entered in the form does not match the advertised requirement.
The first major stage is a 360-mark written examination. It will contain 120 objective questions, divided between General Knowledge and the PGT subject selected by the candidate.
Candidates shortlisted from the written examination will move to the interview stage. The interview carries 40 marks, taking the complete selection process to 400 marks.
The final merit list will be prepared from the combined performance in the 360-mark written examination and 40-mark interview. Therefore, qualifying the written paper alone does not complete the selection process.
If two or more candidates obtain equal overall merit, written examination marks will be compared first. If the tie remains, interview marks will be considered, followed by postgraduate percentage and then training-qualification percentage. If all these are also equal, the older candidate will be placed higher.
Original certificates and the documents supporting the claims made in the online application will be checked during the interview/verification process. A candidate can lose candidature even after clearing the written examination if the prescribed subject qualification, category or other eligibility claim cannot be established from the original records.
